Event Cameras for Science

Event cameras have higher dynamic range and temporal resolution compared to traditional frame-based cameras. This makes them interesting sensors for science applications!

Recording a Total Solar Eclipse with Event Cameras #

In April 2024, a total solar eclipse occured in North America. No one had ever recorded a total solar eclipse with event cameras, so we head out to Vermont, USA, to give it a try. We run our experiments at the Dog Mountain.

Eclipses are the ultimate high-dynamic range test for vision sensors. We wanted to capture data that allowed us to see the surface of the moon, at the same time as the solar crown. Here is a clip summarizing the results:

Are you planning to go to the 2026 total solar eclipse in Spain? Reach out!.
